The Ballet Academy offers tuition in Ballet and Jazz (ATOD - Australian Teachers of Dance) for students from 5yrs. Preschool Dance classes from two years are also offered in which all dance forms are taught to enable the smallest of dancers the opportunity to decide which they prefer. From 2018 Contemporary (ATOD) as well as our Repertoire, Lyrical, Tap, Musical Theatre, Commercial, Variation and Artistry & Performance classes.

Please Note: Ages are important in the PreSchool classes. As students continue through the dance levels to reach Ballet - Test Two and Jazz - Test Two, they have the opportunity to sit dance exams. There are minimum age requirements when sitting an exam and we do not wish to hold students back in a class, while the friends they have made over the years, progress forward.

All exams in Jazz and Ballet are for Test Three and above and held around August/September.

Students wear the same uniform that they have worn to class, with their hair up in a bun for both Ballet and Jazz.

No earrings, jewellery, nailpolish, or makeup is allowed.

In the exam, students enter in small groups (up to eight for Jazz and eight for Ballet) and demonstrate the dance exercises they have learnt in class. The students receive a certificate and report which details how well they did and what they need to improve on for next year.

Both international and national examiners attend the exams, this ensures a high standard of dance training.

While exams are not compulsory, they are encouraged as they give the students a goal to work towards and provide an obvious sense of accomplishment.

END OF YEAR SHOW - Ballet, Jazz & PreSchool

All students Tutus & Tiaras - Level One and over are offered the opportunity to perform in the end of year show. With fantastic costumes, makeup and a professional theatre, they get to experience the thrill of a supportive audience.

2022 Guidelines

* Please note - we are only starting with a small team at this stage.

* Students are also required to attend private lessons of 25 minutes duration to learn their dances from Miss Jess, Miss Paige, Miss Mya or Miss Tori, which will be held later either in Summer Holidays or early in Term One 2022. Tuition Fees for each lesson will be $25, payable at the start of the lesson. Each Dancer is unique and will learn at her own individual pace, although in most cases between 8-10 private lessons will be required.

* Parents will need to ensure that students practice the choreography before the next lesson so as to gain as much as possible from each session.

* Students will need to enter a minimum of two competitions throughout the 2020 year.

* Students are responsible for working on their dances in their own time.

* Competition Entry fees are payable by the parent, which normally range from $8-$20 per competition.

* Parents need to supply blank CDs x 2 for each dance and a memory stick at their first lesson.

* Students are accepted on a yearly basis in to the team. Each year students will need to apply.

* There are many competitions throughout the year to choose from, located in Christchurch, Greymouth, Ashburton, Blenheim and many more. These are always fun & exciting trips for students and families, with lifelong memories made along the way!
